Both are sewing machines, however, the quilting machine has a wider variety of stitches available. Whether you choose a detailed pattern or choose the classic square design (always the best starting point for beginners in hand quilting), it's best to use fabrics that are the same or at least similar in construction to each other.
So, if you thought you needed a quilt or a sewing machine to create a quilt, you couldn't be more wrong.
